PERAN KOMUNIKASI DALAM MENINGKATKAN KELESTARIAN BUDAYA PADA MASYARAKAT KECAMATAN TEMPULING KABUPATEN INDRAGIRI HILIR

Abstract

This study examines the role of communication in enhancing cultural preservation in the community of Tempuling Sub-district, Indragiri Hilir Regency. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and photo documentation. Analysis was conducted using the data analysis procedures proposed by Mills and Huberman, referring to intercultural communication theory. The results show that communication significantly contributes to the enhancement of cultural preservation in the Tempuling Sub-district community. Communication also plays a crucial role in increasing empathy and social awareness among the community towards their own culture and the cultures of others. Intercultural dialogue, cultural education, and cultural promotion are examples of efforts that can be undertaken to achieve this goal.
