Digital literacy is an important competency in the digital age that affects the competitiveness of MSMEs and community empowerment. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a digital literacy training program organized through a collaboration between the Faculty of Economics and Business at the Islamic University of Indragiri and the Regional Library & Archives Office of Indragiri Hilir Regency. The research method used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The results show that the training program successfully improved participants' understanding of the use of digital technology, e-commerce platforms, and social media management for business. The synergy between the two institutions proved effective in increasing the program's reach, the relevance of the training curriculum, and the sustainability of community empowerment programs. In conclusion, cooperation between academic institutions and local governments is an appropriate strategy to improve the digital literacy of MSMEs and the wider community in the region

Higher education plays a strategic role in enhancing the quality of human resources and national competitiveness. Nevertheless, the low level of interest among secondary school students in pursuing higher education remains a significant challenge in increasing higher education participation. One contributing factor is students’ limited understanding of campus life, higher education admission pathways, and the academic environment of universities. This community engagement programme aims to enhance students’ awareness, motivation, and readiness to plan their transition to higher education through a campus life introduction initiative.

Indragiri Hilir Regency possesses the world's most extensive coconut plantation area; however, the cancellation of the planned downstream industrialization by the central government has imposed systemic impacts on the welfare of local farmers. This study aims to analyze the socio-economic consequences of this cancellation and the sustainability risks facing the coconut sector in Indragiri Hilir. The methodology employed is descriptive-qualitative, utilizing secondary data analysis and economic impact simulations. The results indicate that the cancellation of downstreaming prolongs the dominance of a monopsonistic market structure (Sambu Group), where farmers remain price takers with low prices ranging from IDR 1,200 to 2,200 per nut. Conversely, the added value of exported processed products reaches 300–600% (equivalent to IDR 7,000–9,000 per nut), which is exclusively captured by large corporations. Furthermore, a "resource drain" phenomenon occurs due to the massive export of raw coconuts to Vietnam and Thailand, resulting in the loss of foreign exchange potential and local employment opportunities. Simulations suggest that downstreaming could potentially increase farmer income by 15–60% and elevate the coconut sector's GRDP by 35–40%. Without policy interventions such as village-based downstreaming and minimum price regulations, the risk of land-use conversion from coconut to oil palm will escalate, potentially damaging the coastal ecosystem and erasing the region's identity as the world’s coconut hub.

PENINGKATAN LITERASI DAN KESADARAN MASYARAKAT TERHADAP PENGGUNAAN APLIKASI FINTECH INVESTASI DI TEMBILAHAN

The development of financial technology (fintech), particularly in the investment sector, has provided easier access for the public to digital financial products and services. However, low levels of financial literacy and limited understanding of digital investment risks remain significant challenges, especially at the community level. This community service activity aims to enhance the financial literacy and awareness of the Tembilahan community regarding the safe, legal, and responsible use of fintech investment applications. The implementation method employed a qualitative approach through interviews, discussions, and educational outreach to the community. The results indicate that while some community members are familiar with fintech investment, their understanding of investment types, risks, and regulatory aspects remains limited. Following the educational activities, the community demonstrated improved awareness of the benefits and risks of fintech investment, as well as the importance of choosing platforms regulated by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) or Bappebti. This activity contributes positively to improving community financial literacy and encouraging prudent and sustainable use of fintech investment services.
